Patient supportA story from the front desk
Time to write it down.
Room to ask again.
Sometimes the most helpful answer is the one someone needs to hear again.

Every practice knows this kind of call. A patient needs the appointment time repeated. Then the doctor’s name spelled out. Then the phone number again, a few digits at a time, while they write it down.
One conversation with Teri, our AI receptionist, lasted nine minutes and twelve seconds. During it, a patient asked for repeated help with appointment information. Teri repeated details, spelled the provider’s name, and broke the office phone number into smaller pieces. When the patient repeated an incorrect appointment time, Teri corrected it.
For the person calling, those details mattered. Getting them onto a piece of paper took time and a little help. At one point, the caller thanked Teri for being patient.

Our interpretation
What stayed with us.
The caller’s words give us a reason to value patient, repeated explanations. Patience belongs alongside accuracy: a repeated detail still needs to be clear and correct.
That moment stayed with us. It showed how much the small parts of a conversation can matter: answering a question again, spelling a name, and helping someone check what they have written down.
Practice teams understand this work. They do it every day, alongside checking patients in, coordinating with clinicians, and answering the next ringing phone. Giving one caller extra attention is part of the job, and finding enough time for everyone is a constant challenge.
This is an opportunity we see for Teri: helping patients work through everyday questions while giving practices another way to manage the demands on their front desk.
Patients sometimes need time to hear a detail, write it down, and ask once more. We want to make that kind of support easier for practices to provide.
What still needed follow-through
The encounter still required follow-up and revealed places to improve clarity and follow-through. Net staff time saved is unknown; the call’s duration alone does not establish it.
